I remember the first time I coloured my hair, I believe it was the 6th grade. I was in the library at school drawing something and decided to test drive a baby pink marker... on my hair. It looked absolutely ridiculous. I guess I've learned since then because believe it or not, my aqua mermaid tips aren't a fancy dye or spray, but actually the product of a lot of time and a trusty little highlighter. I'd experimented earlier in the year with highlighter highlights (hehe, highlighter highlights) and found that the colour held really well but washed almost completely out after one shower. It's a lot of effort for a couple of days but it's a fun, commitment-free way to experiment with pastel dip dye or subtle highlights. I'm letting the Directions dye fade from my hair before I bleach the whole thing but I had no interest in going downtown with dingy dishwater coloured tips this past weekend. I decided it would be a good use of my time to screw the highlights and just colour in everything. Soooo I proceeded to spend 2 and a half hours of my life colouring my hair with tiny marker. Yes, I know, I'm insane. But that's literally it, there is no technique (although I do recommend laying your hair flat on a piece of paper and colouring it that way, versus holding it in front of your face and trying to do it mid-air. That's just stupid).
