I'm one of those girls who never washes her hair. Make no mistake, I shower every day, but styling my hair is a process that I try to avoid at all costs. I'd been considering cutting my 3 times a week ritual down to 2 when I stumbled upon the "no-(sham)poo" movement. After reading articles on Into the Gloss and W Magazine, I decided to try it. After all, if it's good enough for the CEO of Proenza Schouler (above, who hadn't washed her hair for 6 weeks when this photo was taken. WTF???), it's good enough for me. I think the trick is to wean your hair off shampoo slowly, but I'm a highly impatient person so I just stopped washing my hair altogether. Which turned out to be a problem, considering I'm trying to hit the gym more often and dat shit gets sweaty. On the interwebz, I found that rinsing your hair under hot water is totally fine, which has essentially allowed this experiment to continue. The only problem with uber hot water rinses is that my semi-permanent purple literally washes out in 3 days. Still working on a cure for that, I've spent enough money already on this colour upkeep. Grrr.
Cutting out shampoo completely was out of the question so I committed to shampooing only once a week. Thursday, in case anyone was curious. It's currently week 2 and I have to say, I'm kinda liking it. My guy friend did mentioned my hair smelled "natural" and proceeded to wrinkle his nose... which I'm pretty sure was his way of saying "take a shower" (dude, why are you smelling my hair anyways? Weirdo...) but according to the rest of the world (read: everyone I've shoved my scalp at), my hair smells fine and doesn't look greasy. It holds styles better, my topknots are perkier and my roots have more volume. And when you finally do get to wash your hair...WOAH. Lemme tell you, my hair hasn't felt this soft in a lonnnnng time. Highly recommend!
